God created everything on earth through speaking it into existence...except us. He literally reached down and formed us out of the dust of the earth and breathed his life giving breath into us. We are created in His image! Each one of us is "knitted together in our mother's womb" by the hand of God. But something happened...Satan told us God wasn't good enough. He told us the image God created us in wasn't good enough. So, we ate the fruit. And from that moment on all of mankind has been struggling to regain their identity. And to this very day Satan continues to lie to us through all types of things and tell us we are not good enough and God isn't enough. Identity is defined as the "distinguishing character or personality of an individual." God created us in His image, but Satan has taken that from us. He is a "Lion" roaming the earth "looking for who he can devour." But what are we going to do about it? Are we going to fight back? Or are we going to allow ourselves to be in Identity Crisis?
Hopefully we choose to fight back! Just like Saul in the New Testament, there comes a point where we must "unveil our faces," and allow Christ to "transform us into His image with ever-increasing glory." You see, we can't get our identity back on our own...we need Jesus' help. After all, "the spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world." Transformation creates the image of God within us. We allow "God to transform us into a new person by changing the way we think." Through prayer, reading His Word, and changing our environment God transforms our minds. When we think differently...we act differently.
Once we start the transformation process, God marks us. We are "marked in Him, with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit." Name brands are popular for a reason. People know what they are and what to expect when buying a name brand. Dr Pepper will always taste the same. With off-brands, you never know what you are going to get! When we are marked by God and our identity is restored, people are going to notice it! They will know us by our fruit. After all, "we are not our own." We are God's name brand. Do people see Jesus when they see us? Well, I know a few paragraphs can never do justice to what everyone experienced this weekend! But hopefully this gives you a snapshot of what we jumped into this past week. I want to encourage you to continue this conversation with your student whether they went to camp or not. We all need to know who we are in Christ and live it out!
