Big Idea: A Real Superhero is a Servant We all love superheroes! Every child probably dreams of being one at some point in their life. Superman, Spiderman, The Hulk, Batman...and the list goes on. People admire superheroes for many reasons...their good looks, their personality, their superpowers, their popularity, etc. But one of the things that is often overlooked about superheroes is the fact that they serve. The problem is that people don't really seem to mention that a lot. Serving is one of those things that isn't usually put up in spotlights. In fact a lot of people cringe when they hear the word, "serve." Truth is, even Jesus' disciples didn't quite get the whole concept of serving. Check out Matthew 20:20-28. Jesus has to deal with some very selfish attitudes among his disciples and a particular mom. In the end he drives home the point that "importance" in the Kingdom of God is not about popularity, good looks, position, or anything else like that. It's about serving. We are reminded of this again in Philippians 2:6-7. So according to Jesus, one of the greatest powers we possess is the ability to serve. You see, we all want to be superheroes, and we can be, as long as we remember that a real superhero serves first! Question for the Week: What is something you can do this week to serve as a family?
