Big Idea: Holy Spirit is a Helper Sometimes it just takes more than one! This past week as we were getting the new building ready for Sunday, I quickly realized that I couldn't move all the couches in the youth room by myself! It took someone else holding the other end to get them where they needed to go. There are times in all our lives when we need help. And when it comes to our faith and living it out, in all reality we can't do it on our own. But that's ok...before Jesus left, he promised the Holy Spirit to us. The sad thing is that sometimes the Holy Spirit gets a bad name. People are sometimes a bit skittish when it comes to talking about the Holy Spirit. But take a look at Jesus said about the Holy Spirit:John 14.26, John 16.5-8, John 14.15-17, and Acts 1.8. Over and over Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit. And what is amazing about this is that the original language of the Bible used the word "paraclete" to describe the Holy Spirit. Literally translated it means "called to one's side." And that is exactly what He does. The Holy Spirit steps into life beside us and empowers us to live our faith out. Sometimes He reminds of us the things that Jesus taught. Sometimes He helps us understand Scripture. Sometimes He operates in our lives through spiritual gifts. Sometimes He operates in our lives through the supernatural. But one thing remains...he is always helping. The gift of the Holy Spirit is something powerful that God has given us to help us in our faith. The Holy Spirit is our helper! Family Challenge: Read the book of Acts together as a family. Take some time to talk about how the Holy Spirit helped the early church through various ways. Then take some time to explore how the Holy Spirit can empower your own lives.
